Established in
1877 the Ulverston Auction Mart, the parent company of present day Harrison
Coward, employed their auctioneers from Messrs Alfred Coward & Son to run
their regular live stock sales in the area.
In the late 1920`s
the parent company purchased Messrs A Coward & Son who were specialist Land
Agents and Auctioneers. In 1935 a further expansion of the company took place
when they acquired Messrs F J Harrison & Sons who specialised in urban properties
and antique furniture sales.
In 1975 a further
merger of the two companies into Harrison Coward took place with the result
that their extensive client base throughout the South Lakes and West Cumbria
were able to draw on the wealth of experience gained in a 122 years of dealing
with urban and rural property sales and estate management.
The present day
Head Office is under the guidance of Managing Director Mr Ian Walker,
a chartered surveyor and auctioneer with over twenty eight years local experience
in land and estate agency matters. Mr Walker is supported by Mr Chris
Dodds , auctioneer, who together specialise
in the sale and lease of milk and livestock quotes, the completion of I.A.C.S
returns, farm/land tenancies and compensation claims for pipelines, electricity/telephone
lines and road improvement schemes which effect agricultural land.
The remaining office
staff comprise of Sales Negotiator Mrs Kath Marsden who deals with property market appraisals,
residential lettings and assist all prospective purchasers/sellers with any
enquiries.
Additionally Harrison
Coward can provide mortgage valuations and home buyer reports, full management
and residential lettings packages, house clearances coupled with the holding
of regular antique and modern furniture sales.
